Binti Juag, an 8-year-old female Western Lowland Gorilla, cared for a 3-year-old boy who had fallen into her enclosure at the Brookfield Zoo in Illinois back in 1996.

The boy had broken his hand and suffered a deep cut on his face, Binti carefully picked him up around the waist, as the zoo visitors watched. She carried him to a door where rescuers waited and handed him over to the zookeepers.

The 150-pound gorilla carried her own 17-months baby named Koola on her back throughout her encounter with the boy.
