Linda is best known for her Nigerian blog. However, she didn’t start out as a blogger. Before that, she worked as a model, writer, and waitress. She started blogging in the early 2006 when nobody knew about blogging in Nigeria. At the time, the internet was not as fast and as widespread as it is now. Linda Ikeji had to make all of her posts from a local cyber cafe. Shocking, right? Just imagine the internet speed!

1. Linda Ikeji created her blog at the age of 26.

Not quite as young as today’s bloggers, right? She used to be a model but when there were no more jobs in modeling, she decided to do something else.

2. Her life motto (and the name of her non-profit project) is “I’d rather be self-made; No thanks.”

There is an interesting story behind this motto which she told a while ago. In the early 2000, Linda had almost no money at all. There were times when she couldn’t eat “a proper meal for days” or send money home. She worked as a model, and it didn’t pay well. Linda knew a guy that worked with her, she called him an “aristo.” She knew that he might pay her money if she would do what he wanted. He used to say that he liked her a lot, so we all know exactly what he wanted.

One day, she decided to call him. She hoped that he would give her money, but she was not going to sell her body. He invited her to a hotel. She was barely able to pay for the ride. At the hotel room, he paid for meals, and it was her first real meal in days. After that, he started to flirt with her and tried to seduce her. But she pushed him away. He got angry and got up to leave. Linda asked him for money, but he ignored her and left the hotel room.

On that day, she promised herself that she would never ask for money. She said “I remember saying to myself while I was trekking with tears in my eyes, that one day I’m going to make something of myself. Every money I make in this world would be my own hard earned money. I don’t care how bad it gets, no man is ever going to take away my self-respect. That’ s all I have!”

And from that day on she worked hard in order to achieve her goals.

3. Linda blog was rewarded.

Her blog, which happens to be one of the most popular blogs in Nigeria received the “Nigeria Blog Awards NBA” in 2013.

4. Linda became an active blogger in 2007, a year after she started.

First, she used a sub-domain that later became a custom domain that we all know now - lindaikejisblog com.

5. Linda Ikeji was the number one search in Nigeria in 2014.

Linda Ikeji blog became a popular portal, and a lot of people were interested in it. The numbers of readers increased rapidly.

6. Shut down by Google.

Did you know that Linda’s blog was shut down on 8 October 2014? Google commented that: “We take violations of policies very seriously as such activities diminish the experience for our users. When we are notified of the existence of content that may violate our Terms of Service, we act quickly to review it and determine whether it actually violates our policies. If we determine that it does, we remove it immediately”.

It was shocking for the fans and readers, but the blog was restored in a few days.

7. There were controversial posts!

Linda wrote some very controversial things about celebrities such as:

- Richard Mofe Damijo;

- Wizkid;

- Tonto Dikeh;

- Funke Akindele.

A lot of fans have discussed these post and the subsequent repercussions for weeks. There were also posts with the tag “SaveMayowaCampaign” that blew up the blogging world.

8. In Forbes Africa.

She was included in the Forbes’ list of Africa’s Most Prominent Women along with Chibundu Onuzo, in August 2012.
